Host a Class

Bringing a SpecTrain class to your area is easy, we mainly just need access to a suitable range and some interested students. Everything else is negotiable. In return for assistance organizing the class, the host receives a free slot to attend the training.

Note: the following is for open enrollment courses. For LE & other contract courses we'll customize the course around your needs and resources. Just submit your info, select "Other" for the class, and we'll be in touch ASAP.

Host Responsibilities

  • Arrange range access. Most suitable ranges across the country are setup primarily for members, and will not accept instructors just calling from across the country asking to use the space. This is where a host comes in. If you own a range obviously this process is easy. If you are a decision maker or board maker at a range facility this also usually makes it easy. If you not, you usually need to at least be a member of the range in good standing to be heard. Usually the best course of action is the attend a board meeting, and bring up the possibility of hosting a class. You'll want to have all the details figured out prior to this including class size, any required resource access etc. Ideally have this in writing in the form of a written proposal. Note: In order to host Level-Up classes outside of driving distance it usually needs to be a range that already hosts matches, and will allows us access to their stage building props.

  • Arrange required resources. This changes from class to class. If you are close enough to NC I may be able to bring in all required resources with me (including stage building props etc). In some cases I just need a place to ship targets. For Level-Up Classes we'll need access to the full stage building props etc.

  • Help get the word out. Obviously we'll need a certain number of students to make a class happen. We'll do everything we can to promote the class through social media, our existing alumni etc, but anything the host can do to help get the word out to their local area is greatly appreciated.

Class Specific Requirements

Core Weekend

  • To travel with our Core (intro) level curriculum we combine 1 day each of Pistol/Rifle into a 2 day core class.

  • Range: Ideally at least 50 yards distance, 30 yards width on the range. 15 Moveable target stands, 6 pieces moveable steel.

  • Class size: 14

Level-Up Pistol/Rifle

  • Performance shooting pistol or rifle curriculum with on-demand performance tested on USPSA style stages.

  • Range Requirements - Note that this list is an ideal wish-list. If you are missing something feel free to reach out an see if we can work around it.

    • For this class we need (2) 3-sided bays. One bay large enough to accommodate drills and class work, and another for stages. Both bays should be minimum 25 yards x 25 yards.

    • Stage Props: (13) Target Stands, (4) pieces of steel, (8) barrels, (10) 8' walls, (4) 4' walls, (10) 8' fault lines, (6) 4' fault lines.

    • Main Bay: (12) Target Stands, (3) steel targets, (8-12) barrels (can borrow from stage if practical). (2) Shooting boxes if you have them.

  • Class size: Limited to 10 due to stage runs.

Performance Pistol/Rifle Mechanics

  • Performance shooting pistol or rifle curriculum. This class does not include full stage work and is designed to be easier to host at ranges that do not regularly host matches. This is not a different level or pre-requisite to level-up and includes much of the same curriculum.

  • Range Requirements - Note that this list is an ideal wish-list. If you are missing something feel free to reach out an see if we can work around it.

    • For this class we just need (1) 3-sided bay. Minimum 25 yards width, 25 yards distance for pistol, ideally 50-100 yards for rifle.

    • Main Bay: (14) Target Stands, (3) steel targets, (8-12) barrels. (2) Shooting boxes if you have them.
